Astronomers found a twin star to Earth’s
own sun, which is much older. The rare star is the oldest known solar twin and
can tell what Earth star will looks like in 4 billion years. The star, called HIP
102152, appears to be as similar to the Sun in its basic characteristics
as any other known star. The sun is only 4.6 billion years old; HIP 102152 is
8.2 billion years old.
Acer on 2 September 2013 launched a new Smartphone
with a 6-inch screen called the Liquid S2 which is the world’s first 4K
recording Smartphone which is four times the resolution of current full HD. 4K
video will be shot using the phone’s 13 megapixel rear camera and the power of
a quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which is clocked at a stunning
2.2GHz.
A new scientific study showed that ageing
works through a special set of genes that everyone has, the rDNA genes. The
international team led by Dr Takehiko Kobayashi from the National Institute of
Genetics in Mishima, Japan, found that if we improve the stability of the rDNA
genes, which are quite unstable, the lifespan of baker’s yeast could be
extended. It could help in studying cell ageing.
Scientists have discovered that the
sleeping patterns of baby owls are similar to that of human babies. The sleep
of baby birds appears to change in the same way as it does in humans, researchers
at Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Ornithology and the University of
Lausanne in Switzerland have found.
An Indian-origin designer has developed “smart”
street lamps, which light up only in the presence of people or vehicles. The
invention could slash energy costs by 80 per cent. Chintan Shah invented the
system dubbed Twilight when he was a student at the Delft University of
Technology in the Netherlands. The lamps have sensors that can distinguish
between people and small animals like cats and mice, to avoid lighting up
unnecessarily.
